Nail Art Fail

Thursday, July 7, 2011
Evening all, how are you today? I've finally recovered from my pollen induced coma, a result of walking home along the canal, so have decided to write a post!

You may remember me mentioning Emily's amazing tiger nails in my monthly summary post. They were amazing, my attempt wasn't!

One coat of NYC Spring Street

After dabbing Barry M shade 134 and Nails Inc Copacabana over the top using the corner of a sponge

Finished result

It didn't look as bad  blurred....

This nail art fail has really taught me that I need to invest in some nail art pens instead of using my Eyeko Eyeliner! I had to skip the gold step out as I didn't have a gold nail art pen, and I do feel that the black may have come out better with a nail art pen. The plus side of using eyeliner...I didn't like the design so instead of locking it in with a top coat I washed the eyeliner off and kept the gradient nails!

I'm still a nail art newbie so am definitely going to try this again as Emily did it so well! Do you have any nail art tips/recommendations?

NOTD - Funky leopard

Monday, April 11, 2011
I decided to attempt leopard print nails for the first time with a bit of help from Leanne over at Do Not Refreeze (btw if you don't already follow her and you love nail art then follow her!). As I'd never attempted leopard print before I hopped straight over to Leanne's blog in the hope that I would find a tutorial and find one I did! I used this fab tutorial, which was very easy to follow. Unfortunately mine didn't come out anywhere near as good as Leanne's, but I think for a first attempt they aren't too bad! Hopefully I'll get better with practice!

These are the products I used :

I don't have a nail art pen so I used my Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner Pen which worked a treat!

two coats
I love the colour of this 17 nail varnish, shade 'Wave'. It claims that it wears for up to 10 days, I applied it on the Thursday and it was chipped by the Saturday. I did do a lot of housework on the Saturday and it was fine up until then so if I hadn't of done so much work then maybe it would of lasted longer, but I don't think it would of lasted for 10 days.

These polishes have the new maxi brush for easy application which I LOVE! It isn't the best for attempting the fiddly bits of nail art but for all over polish I find the brush makes life easier.

Boots are currently running a 3 for 2 offer on selected 17 products, these are £3.99 in Boots so with this offer I got three shades for £7.98 - bargain!

I then followed Leanne's tutorial by applying Rimmel's French Manicure white to different parts on each nail, when this had dried I added random bits of 17 Sphinx, again gorgeous colour, same product as Wave. I then drew black lines around the white with my Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner and attempt to do 'c' shapes around the gold, I finished with a clear top coat.

As I said, its not perfect, but this is the first time I've ever really done anything other than crackle polish so I'm pleased with the result! Thanks Leanne for the fab tutorial!!

NOTD - Spotty

Thursday, April 7, 2011
Hi all, this is a scheduled post so when you're reading this I'll be in Cardiff getting ready to watch the X Factor tour and see my yummy Matt Cardle :)

This is my latest NOTD (I say latest, its been on my nails for about a week and I've only now got around to putting it on as I have had so much I've wanted to blog about this week!)

Barry M Grey, Rimmell French Manicure, Sally Hansen Top Coat & a hair grip for the spots
two coats
I love this effect and it is so simple! What do you all think? Do you love spotty nails?

Rainbow Crackle Effect Nails

Sunday, March 13, 2011
Today I have been totally inspired by Zoe's post over at London Lip Gloss. Her nails just look so AMAZING! I had to whip off my existing polish and give this a go straight away! It is very easy to do and the results are fab, I keep looking at them and smiling!

I started by applying different coloured stripes (very messily!)
then went over them with some Barry M Nail effects & a clear top coat when they had dried
tidied up a bit around the edges, and voilĂ ! So simple but so effective.
